of Sicily will start with the magnificent 12th century
cathedral. It is a mix of architectural styles and a
pantheon of royalty. It contains the tombs of Roger II and
Frederick II among others. Close by the imposing Norman
Palace, first built by the Arabs and later used and
modified by the Normans and the Spanish viceroys. From
here, you will take Corso Calatafimi that leads to the
town of Monreale, home of one of the most impressive
Italian cathedral. Built in the 12th century, it is famous
for its Byzantine mosaic covered interior walls (the
mosaic cycle is the second largest on earth) and the
adjacent Benedictine cloister. Back in Palermo, we will
stop at the Catacombs of the Capuchins where a maze of
corridors contain thousands of mummified and perfectly
dressed bodies dating from the late 16th century to the
late 19th century. Return to the hotel around 1:00 p.m.

| 8:30 a.m. departure from Palermo. After an hour and a half drive you will reach the ancient town of Segesta, standing on a vast plateau in a naturally well defended position, probably built between the 5th and the 4th century BC. Here you will visit the quite well preserved Greek Theatre and the magnificent Doric Temple, dating from the last 30 years of the 5th century. In about 40 minutes, you will reach Trapani's salt pans, now a natural reserve. The landscape is characterised by panels of mirror-like water framed by thin strips of earth and dominated by windmills. Then you will enjoy your lunch in a very panoramic and beautiful restaurant (EXTRA), up on a hill dominating the Tyrrhenian sea (beverage not included). After lunch you will climb Monte San Giuliano on top of which the medieval town of Erice stands. You will enter Erice through Porta Trapani, one of the three remaining gates and arrive at the 14th century Cathedral and its bell tower, originally a watch tower. A walk through the winding and cobbled streets, passing by the numerous medieval churches and convents is a unique experience. Once reached the majestic Norman castle, known as the Venus castle because of it has been built on the site of a Venus temple, you will enjoy an extraordinary panorama. Return to the hotel around 6 p.m.

During the two-hour-and-a-half trip in the heart of Sicily, you will enjoy the beautiful sceneries of the Madonie and the Erei Mountains, and admire the breathtaking setting of Enna, which stands up on a 1000 m high mountain. Mount Etna, with a bit more than 10,000 feet above sea-level, is Europe's highest and largest active volcano. You will accend it from southern approach climbing up to the rifugio Sapienza at 5,906 ft. From here, a nice walk, through a spectacular lunar landscape, will lead you to the Crateri Silvestri formed in 1892. Lunch in the beautiful panoramic restaurant (EXTRA), with limited beverage included. After lunch, at about 3.00 p.m., you will reach the town of Taormina, on a rocky plateau on the slopes of Monte Tauro, dominating the Ionian coast. A nice promenade through the town will allow you to see the magnificient greek Theatre, the Palazzo Corvaja (seat of the first Sicilian parliament in 1411), and then continuing walking through Corso Umberto you'll reach a nice panoramic square, where the churches of Sant'Agostino, San Giuseppe and the Porta dell'Orologio are. will reach the town of Cefalù, the ancient “Kephaloidion”
which means “head”. You will start your visit passing
through Porta della Terra, one of the town's ancient gates
and you will pass by the Chiesa dell'Addolorata, which
incorporates part of the ancient megalithic wall.
Continuing your nice walk in the main street you will see
the baroque church of Santa Maria della Catena and a few
meters ahead the Osterio Magno, a fortified bulding
possibly of Norman origin, which is said to have been the
residence of King Roger. From here you reach the Piazza
Duomo where, towering above the other buildings and
dominating the whole town, the imposing Norman Cathedral
stands: fabulous mosaics adorn the interior. The eye is
immediately attracted to the huge majestic image of the
Christ Pantocrator gazing down from the apse. Walking down
Via Vittorio Emanuele you will see the medieval
wash-house, hewn out of the rock. About half an hour drive
from Cefalù, on a very panoramic road on the seaside, you
will reach the town of Santo Stefano di Camastra, famous
all over the world for its Ceramic Art, perpetuating a
local artisan tradition that goes back to the 15th
century. Here you will enjoy your free time for visiting
the town and for shopping. Return to your hotel around
