Departure day: Monday
Program:
Zaghouan, derived from the Latin “Ziqua”, is crouching at the foot of Djebel Zaghouan (1295). The Nymphaeum is a basin built under Hadrian collecting the spring water from the region to be conducted to Carthago by the aqueduct of 132km length and with a daily rate of 32 million litters.
In the center of a vast region cultivated in grain, “Tuburbo Majus” experienced an important urban development when becoming a Roman municipium to which impressive ruins bear witness today. On arrival, one can see immediately the columns of the capital, the forum with a temple dedicated to Mercury and the Curia, the Senate meeting place. The mosaics, the Roman houses, in particular the large residences, enable one to differentiate the classes and hierarchies of past times.
